What are A.M. Best insurance ratings and why are they useful to me?

A.M. Best is a leading company that does independent evaluations and ratings of insurance companies throughout the world. They use the same method for every company. That means you can compare companies by comparing their ratings.

A.M. Best does a comprehensive analysis of each company's balance sheet, their credit quality, operating performance and business profile. They even look in to each company's operating plans, philosophies and quality of management. They have been doing this throughout the world since 1899.

The results provide the opportunity to do an "apples-to-apples" comparison for the consumer.

Their findings are summed up with "Financial Strength Ratings". These are very important because the rating is an opinion of the insurer's ability to meet its obligations to its policyholders.

Here is the way their ratings work. As you can see, companies are referred to as either SECURE or VULNERABLE. All of AmericaDirect's insurers rate among the highest of the SECURE companies.
